Kindness lessons for middle school are becoming more and more important. Upper elementary students will gain valuable insight into kindness while learning about character development and how to find a theme in this lesson. After reading "The Perfect Comeback," they will see another way to handle rude behavior. This original story is a humorous realistic narrative, which puts the main characters in a familiar situation: dealing with a bully.
The Teacher’s Guide contains everything needed to teach the lesson, including a mini lesson for how to find the theme in a story. Worksheets include vocabulary practice and questions for comprehension and learning how to identify theme. Teaching about characters using Think Deeper questions gets students thinking of new and appropriate ways to handle rudeness.
Extension Activities give students opportunities to respond to the passage in different learning modalities, including art, narrative writing, and journaling.
